CHAPTER 2: THE HONEST ONE
"Kissing in public?" Banele confessed, staring at his shoes. "Just the idea of someone seeing me… us, Doc… I'd panic."
"That would make it hard to date."
The doctor said it gently while the change took her — a wicked smile settling onto her new face like a key into a lock. It was getting faster now. It barely asked permission at all.
"Guess we'll take this session outside."
She led him to the trees at the edge of the hospital parking, where visitors walked to their cars with their eyes forward. The doctor pulled her top down and dropped to her knees in the dappled shade.
"Wait, are you going to…"
"Quiet," she whispered, and took him into her mouth, moving slowly up and down. His eyes closed; his fingers found her hair. And every time footsteps passed nearby on the gravel she stroked and bobbed more eagerly — the risk was his cure, and the risk, God help her, was the sweetest part of hers.
He released with a loud moan he couldn't hold back, and Banele conquered his fear of public affection right there against the tree trunk.
The doctor drove home past Kelly's Beach with the windows down, shaking, and could not have said whether it was the cool sea air or the hunger.
Ryan — Mpendulo, the file said, though he introduced himself as Ryan and the doctor didn't correct him — kept his voice low.
"I fantasise about my boss, Doc. A powerful woman who just takes control of me. But I can barely look her in the eye."
