Delete Your Data

You can ask us to delete your No Safe Word account and the personal information we hold about you at any time. This page explains how to make that request and what happens afterwards.

1. How to Request Deletion

Email [email protected] with the subject line Delete my data.

So that we can find your account and be sure the request is genuinely yours, please send the request from the email address on the account, and include:

  • The email address you use to sign in, and the WhatsApp number if you signed in with WhatsApp.
  • Whether you want your entire account deleted, or only your marketing subscriptions stopped.

If you signed up with WhatsApp and no longer have access to that email address, send the request from your WhatsApp number instead and we will verify it the same way we verify a sign-in.

2. What We Delete

When you ask us to delete your account, we remove:

  • Your account and profile information.
  • Your email address and WhatsApp number.
  • Your reading history and reading progress.
  • Your marketing consent records and any queued or scheduled messages to you.

3. What We Have to Keep

South African law requires us to retain records of completed transactions for tax and accounting purposes, so we keep a minimal record of any payment you made — the amount, the date, and the reference — for as long as the law requires. This record is kept for compliance only. It is never used to contact you, and it is not used for marketing.

4. How Long It Takes

We action deletion requests within 30 days of receiving them, and we will email you to confirm once it is done. Deletion is permanent — once your account is removed we cannot restore your reading history or any stories attached to it, so you would need to start a new account to read again.

5. Facebook and Instagram

No Safe Word does not offer "Log in with Facebook", and our Facebook application does not collect, receive, or store personal information about Facebook or Instagram users. The application is used only to publish our own posts to our own No Safe Word Page and to read the performance statistics of those posts.

This means there is no Facebook user data for us to delete. If you have commented on or messaged our Page and would like that content removed, email us at [email protected] and we will remove it from the Page.

6. Stopping Messages Without Deleting Your Account

If you only want the messages to stop, you do not need to delete your account:

  • WhatsApp: reply STOP to any message from us.
  • Email: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.

Each channel is separate, so stopping one does not stop the other.

7. Your Other Rights

Deletion is one of several rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Our Privacy Policy sets out the rest, including your right to see what information we hold about you and to have it corrected.
