The Unhoneymooners — spice level
Christina Lauren · reviewed by Zakes Mdluli · 23 August 2026
3 out of 5 chillies
3 out of 5 — Hot
A three. Genuinely explicit in a handful of places, and playful rather than intense with it. Forced proximity done properly.
How we rate: from wide reading and what readers consistently report, not a fresh page-by-page re-read of every edition. Where we are less certain, we say so.
Rated on our five-chilli scale, the same one on every story here.
Where it sits
Two people who cannot stand each other end up on somebody else's honeymoon, pretending to be married. You can see the shape of it from the first chapter, and that is not a criticism — the pleasure is in the execution.
The heat is real. There are several open-door scenes, they are explicit, and they are written with a lightness that keeps them fun rather than heavy. Nothing here is dark or difficult.
Three chillies: on the page, part of the story, not the whole engine.

What to expect
Forced proximity, one bed, a fake relationship, and a resort. If those four words are what you came for, this delivers all of them without apology.

Who it is for
