Spicy audiobooks are unusually hard to find and unusually easy to get wrong. The mainstream platforms carry them but bury them; the free catalogues barely carry them at all; and a great many of the ones you do find have been quietly toned down for the recording, so the audio does not match the book.
Three things are worth knowing about how No Safe Word handles that.
Nothing is softened for audio
If a chapter is explicit on the page, it is explicit in your headphones. We do not record a cleaner version. The reason is straightforward: a reader who chose a five-chilli story and got a three-chilli recording has been sold something other than what she picked.
Everything is rated before you press play
Every story carries a spice rating from one to five chillies — Warm, Steamy, Hot, Scorching, Filthy — and the rating means the same thing in audio as in text. It is the ordinary romance convention precisely so that you already know how to read it.
That matters more in audio than on the page. A book can be put down quietly. A narrator reading something unexpected out loud, possibly while somebody else is in the room, is a different kind of surprise. The rating is there so it does not happen.
Audio is the most private way to read this
This is the part nobody says out loud. A phone screen can be read over your shoulder on a taxi. Headphones cannot. For a great many of our readers, audio is not a convenience — it is the only comfortable way to read this genre outside their own home.
Nothing is saved to the phone unless you ask for it. If you do save a book to listen to offline, it is removed again the moment you sign out — so a shared phone is left the way you found it. That is a deliberate design decision, not a technical limitation.

Is the audio as explicit as the text?
Yes. Nothing is toned down or cut for the recording — an explicit chapter is narrated exactly as written. A cleaner audio version of a story someone chose for its heat would be a bait and switch.
How do I know how explicit a story is before I listen?

Can other people tell what I am listening to?

Who narrates the explicit stories?
The same generated narration as the rest of the catalogue — we say so rather than let you assume otherwise. The voice was chosen and tested until it pronounced our characters' names properly, and it reads explicit passages in the same register as the rest of the story.
