Nomsa Khumalo

Three months later.

I was standing in the kitchen, making dinner, when my phone buzzed. I picked it up and saw a message from Puleng.

"How was the trip? You never told me! Details, girl. DETAILS."

I laughed, stirring the pot on the stove. She had no idea. She thought she'd sent me a dirty book as a joke, and instead, she'd opened a door that changed my marriage forever.

I typed back: "It was amazing. Best anniversary ever. I'll tell you everything over lunch next week."

Everything. I smiled at the word. There was so much to tell.

Sipho came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing my neck. "Smells good," he said.

"It's just spaghetti," I said, leaning back into him.

"I wasn't talking about the food."

I turned around and kissed him properly. Fifteen years of marriage, and we still couldn't keep our hands off each other. But it was different now. There was a freedom between us that hadn't existed before the Retreat, an honesty that ran deeper than anything we'd shared in all our years together.

We talked about everything now. Fantasies, desires, fears. Nothing was off-limits. The Retreat had stripped away the last of our inhibitions, not just sexually, but emotionally. We were more open, more connected, more in love than we'd ever been.

And our sex life? It was unrecognizable.

We'd joined a club. Not a formal one, just a loose network of couples we'd met at the Retreat. Zanele and Mandla had connected us with a group in Johannesburg that met once a month at a private home. It was nothing like the Retreat, of course. It was smaller, quieter, more intimate. But it was enough to keep the fire burning.
