PART 5: GOOD, NOT PERFECT
A month later, everybody had mostly moved on.
And by "moved on," I mean the street had found new foolishness.
Somebody's auntie had started dating the deacon and his son at the same time. Sipho added a kota to his board called Community Penis — boerewors, extra cheese, a secret sauce he refused to explain — and it sold out every Friday. Starla rebranded herself as a "healing influencer" and started selling journals on her WhatsApp status, titled I Deserve Better Than a Catfish.
Lil D bought one.
Signed.
Kane and me? We were good.
Not perfect.
Good.
There's a difference.
Perfect is fake. Perfect is filters, matching pyjamas, and couples online posting "my forever" while one of them has a secret phone in the glove compartment.
Good is real.
Good is hard conversations after dinner. Good is apologising without being forced. Good is calling when you said you would. Good is standing ten toes down when the same people who watched your mess are waiting to watch you fail.
Kane still had moments where he got quiet instead of saying what he felt. I still had moments where I turned small concerns into a full court presentation with exhibits, witnesses, and closing arguments. But we were learning.
He started showing up different.
Calling when he said he would.
Introducing me properly.
Making space for me in his life without me having to fight for a chair.
And I started trusting the version of him that was trying, instead of punishing him for every man who had ever played in my face before.
That was the lesson nobody tells you in the middle of kasi drama.
Love isn't always about finding somebody with no baggage.
