My head is buzzing, and I haven't even had a drop of anything. My brain is overloaded with names and connections and who belongs to who. When Naledi invited me on this trip she said it would be a few close friends, which is technically true. It's just that there are so many enormous personalities in one room. I don't intimidate easily. I move in some rarefied circles from time to time in my line of work, I rub up against the entertainment industry's elite often enough, but every single person here is at the top of something.
Nqobile and Given, a power couple, two of the most feared agents in the game.
Sabelo and Naledi, obviously. Her, one of the loudest names in fashion right now; him, a legend of the sport, the kind of player whose shirt a club quietly never gives to anybody else again, with business interests on three continents.
Lonwabo and Puleng. Him, the man his whole club is built around, one of the best in the league right now. Puleng, apparently, is becoming a force in her own right, running the biggest accounts at their agency, Elevation.
Adding to the general bad-arsery, Naledi's close friends and business partners Bianca and Yaa are here with their boyfriends. Sabelo's sister Nolwazi, who plays professional football over in Spain, is here with her new wife, Zinzi, who is a songwriter and a producer and, on top of all that, a cousin to Mavuso, one of the greatest lyricists this country has ever produced.
So, ja. It's a lot. They're a lot.
