CHAPTER 2: THE PADDLE

The next day, Bongiwe was horrified she'd let herself get so carried away with thoughts of Ofentse. She felt even more clumsy and awkward as she muttered a hasty, "Good morning," when she arrived at eight. He was in the same position behind his desk that she'd left him in the previous evening, and she briefly wondered if he'd gone home at all. He looked gorgeous, head bent looking over paperwork, his dark hair slightly dishevelled and careless. "I thought I told you to come in at nine?"

"Yes, well… I was up and ready, so I thought I'd get here early since I park so far away—"

"Have Anke give you an executive parking pass."

"That's not necessary, I—"

"It is not for your convenience. It is for mine. I don't want you wasting my time trekking out to your car when I have errands I need you to perform quickly."

"Of course, sir," she murmured, taken aback by his tone.

"Take your leisurely mornings when I offer them. It will not happen often."

"Yes, sir." She turned and retreated to the lounge. He was a bit of a bear this morning, and she hadn't even had her coffee yet.
