Vuyelwa wants me to spend the night.

Of course she does. It's her day — Anti Nyoni's — and neither of us worked it. Katlego ran the floor and the two of us went home like ordinary people. We've had very little time alone lately, with how flat out the restaurant has been. And if I'm honest — and I need to be with myself and with her — ever since that charged moment with Naledi in my office, I've been avoiding this. Maybe even since I watched her kiss that wannabe councillor on her stoep. Suka. My response to seeing her with someone else was unreasonable, out of proportion, and disturbing. I really need to unpack this shit with Dr Mngadi next week, but he's not here to help me navigate a conversation that is probably long overdue.

"Lunch was really nice," Vuyelwa says, stacking Tupperware in her fridge. "Everyone was so nice. And Naledi's mother — sjoe."

"Yeah." I take one of the high stools at the counter in the kitchen of her flat. "Mma Naledi. She's one of a kind."

I'd hate to see that girl hurt.
