Vuyelwa Duma

Having Vuyi at my match, wearing my shirt, does a whole lot of things to my possessive side. Outside of my sister, I've never had someone at the stadium for just me. I have no idea how Sibisi has done this, match in and match out, since we were teenagers. Having my girl here steals all my focus. My eyes keep wanting to wander up to the seats to see how pretty she looks with her curly hair and the Comets shirt across her chest, regardless that I've had the same view for weeks now.

I almost can't believe I get to have her here, and it's as if I need to keep checking to make sure it's actually true.

"Ten minutes, Elton! Ten minutes!" I shout out to my centre-back partner as the clock on the big screen ticks over eighty. It's been a hot one — half past three on a Highveld Saturday in March, the storm already stacking up over the reef behind the far stand.

The boys have been playing great, more points than anyone in the league since December, and it hasn't stopped. But more than the three points for today's win, once the final whistle goes, a top-two finish is as good as done, something that hasn't been done in this club since before I signed.

Golden Arrows have thrown their keeper forward for a corner in the ninety-fourth, which is what you do when you're two down and there's nothing left to lose. Elton meets it first, heads it clear, and then the little bastard runs it eighty metres with nobody in front of him and rolls it into an empty net.
