"Ready to go?" Andi grabs her flight bag as I follow her down the aisle of the empty aircraft. We give the flight deck a wave goodbye before going down the airstairs and heading out across the apron towards the staff bays past the fence.
"Actually, I've sorted out a lift. But thank you. I'm sure Sabelo is chuffed that you're coming home early."
"I can't wait to see him." Andi's eyes sparkle with mischief.
"I shouldn't expect to hear from you until our next away trip, huh?"
"Exactly." She shoots me a knowing wink as we walk to her Polo. "This is me. You're sure you're good?"
"Yep. My lift will be here in a minute," I lie.
"Sharp. See you Monday."
I offer Andi a wave as she drives out through the staff gate before I sneak around the corner to the empty players' parking behind the boom, where a blacked-out Mercedes-AMG G 63 sits alone by the hangar. Zondi leans against the driver's side door, hands in his suit trouser pockets, and one ankle casually crossed over the other.
"You following me?" the centre-back asks from across the tar.
"Yes. You didn't have to wait for me to finish signing off. All your teammates left over an hour ago."
