# Chapter 45
VUSI
I'm leaning back against the brick wall, with one boot propped against it, hidden by the shadows in the alley and a set of large dustbins.
I take a deep drag on the cigarette, and the embers glow in the darkness. It's a silent evening. Snow sails through the orange light of a nearby lamppost. I don't know how long I've waited. It doesn't matter. I'll wait all night if I have to. Restless energy courses through me, and a muscle works in my jaw as I flick the ash.
The image of that fucker cornering my Ayanda against the mirror is seared into my brain. I can't shake it. I take another drag, allowing the sweet burn to ease my racing thoughts, and tip my head back. Snowflakes settle on my lashes and melt on my lips.
Blowing out a cloud of smoke, I watch it disperse. Ayanda doesn't want me to hurt him, and that makes me even more jittery. The voices whisper at the fringes of my consciousness, agitated, restless, hungry for carnage.
I take one last deep drag, filling my burning lungs with the toxic smoke, before tossing the cigarette to the snowy ground and crushing it beneath my boot.
I imagine him upstairs with her, touching and kissing her while she moans his name. The thought of them together won't leave. It taunts me until it takes a herculean effort to stay rooted to the spot.
By the time he finally exits the building, I'm ready to murder him in cold blood.
